Ah, the smell of fresh mown grass, the crack of the bat, the cheer of the crowd. The seventh inning stretch. I can see it all now. On TV. Here it is quite different. So far there has been grass, and wind, and cold and the sun right in our eyes. You don't hear a bat cracking much, most of the players can't even hit the ball. One kid mixed it up a little by chopping at the ball, hatchet style. The coach about had a conniption. Other kids kind of swing at the ball in a lazy fashion, like the ball is just floating through the air toward them and they can kind of leisurely move the bat toward it. And the seventh inning stretch? I don't think we've gotten past 3 innings yet. We didn't win last night, although there was an exciting moment when the pitcher managed to walk two batters by hitting them with the ball. But no grand slam home run was in the making. The boys had a good time though and that's the whole point.
Play ball!!
