It was hiding

My yard is a total disaster. Well, not total. But I've been working on it and working on it and never seem to get anywhere. Yesterday dad was weed whacking, and whacking and whacking while I pulled grass from the garden. But, on close inspection next to the wild aspen trees that are trying to take over, I spied them. Thin, spindly, yellowing. Rhubarb. My own rhubarb. I think they aren't doing well because they are in constant shade. But next weekend this will change. I'm going to dig them up and move them so they will grow nicely. Next year, RHUBARB!

philosophhhhhhooeeeee

Walking down the street today I was accosted by the rolling paper plate of dreams. The plate was rolling along buoyed up by the wind of desire. Then a car ran over it.

Ice cream time.

I lead a sad existence. Go to work, go home, go to work, go home. Enlivened by a bit of dish washing and weed pulling.
Then Wednesday arrives!
It's ice cream time!

Cheap entertainment

Getting ready for bed. I'm reading a book and my son says, "look mom!" I look up and there is one of those giant mosquitos above my head on the ceiling. Not sure what it really is. So my son got his sword and shield from Medeival Times and slashed at it. It flew around a bit and landed on a wall. So then he got a towel and hit it. We think he killed it. Then we went on a frenzy, waving the towel at the other mosquitos on the walls. A grand time was had by all.

Ever noticed

That Axl Rose is channeling Davy Jones? Watch them dance.

Tell me what it takes

Tell me how it is that you can sleep, in the night, without thinking you lost everything that was good in your life to the toss of the diiiiiiiiccccceeeeee.
he he he he he

I'm so clever. My son took off his socks to go to bed the other night so he wouldn't sweat. I said, 'are you made of wool?' And he says, 'what?' And I said, 'because you are a sweater' he he
I kill myself....

Buzz

I'm spinning some organic merino right now. Working on a 3-ply. The fiber is the double fiber club from Spunky Eclectic in Twilight colorway. It was January's club fiber if I remember correctly. It's coming along nicely. The weight is coming out to about what I wanted. I had been only spinning bulky things on my wheel so I had to concentrate to spin something smaller. I also got a lazy kate to help with the plying and it really does help. It's not quite so green in real life. More teal and purple but it was night and dark.
Saturday I was working on hanging up clothes on the line to dry and I heard a buzz buzz. I look around warily. Buzz buzz. Looking for the bee or wasp. Buzz buzz. I realize it's following me and sounds muffled. Buzz buzz. Ack! It must be in my clothespin bag I have around my waist. Buzz buzz. I don't dare put my hand in there. Buzz buzz. Oh wait, it's in my pocket. It's my phone. D'oh!

Black socks

I started a pair of socks using the Earl Grey pattern from the Yarn Harlot. The pattern seems to be very easy. Just a small patch of pattern every round with a bunch of knit stitches in between. But they are taking forever to do. I'm on the 2nd try because the first time I got about 20 rounds into the sock and realized there were a bunch of dropped stitches. Argh. So I started over and am doing better now. The yarn is Knit Picks essential sock yarn and it's nice but I think the problem is the BLACK. I can only knit on them during the day (hence the nighttime dropped stitches). So we'll see how it progresses.
In other news.... I was making coffee this morning and I was looking out to my garden, noting the grass coming up and being annoyed when I noticed a cat. A black cat. I thought to myself, "oh, I haven't seen that cat before, another cat to add to the herd of outside cats" It came closer to the house and it hit me, it's my cat, from the inside cat herd. I went outside to try and coax it in but it was having none of that. So I left the door cracked a bit and hopefully it will come back in. Or, the other inside cats will go out, or, the other outside cats will come in. It's never boring.

It's baseball season!

Ah, the smell of fresh mown grass, the crack of the bat, the cheer of the crowd. The seventh inning stretch. I can see it all now. On TV. Here it is quite different. So far there has been grass, and wind, and cold and the sun right in our eyes. You don't hear a bat cracking much, most of the players can't even hit the ball. One kid mixed it up a little by chopping at the ball, hatchet style. The coach about had a conniption. Other kids kind of swing at the ball in a lazy fashion, like the ball is just floating through the air toward them and they can kind of leisurely move the bat toward it. And the seventh inning stretch? I don't think we've gotten past 3 innings yet. We didn't win last night, although there was an exciting moment when the pitcher managed to walk two batters by hitting them with the ball. But no grand slam home run was in the making. The boys had a good time though and that's the whole point.
Play ball!!

Whew

Chuck would spare me.

Your Result: He would spare you, but you would lose

Yay_profile

Chuck Norris would end up liking you too much to kill you. You're funny and cool, and you would be spared. Chuck would subsequently show you how to party and you would have the best time in your life, but in the morning you'd roll over and he would be gone. Your heart would be broken forever.

It was an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny....

Taking a shower this morning, life is beautiful, raindrops keep falling on my head. I look up and I see them. Tiny spiders around the shower head. Looking up farther, tiny spiders up by the ceiling. Looking over, tiny spiders around the light fixture. Looking around, tiny spiders rappelling down from the ceiling. Itty bitty spider committee. Am I inside Charlotte's Web? They don't creep me out as much as the spider that was ON ME the other night. But still. Ick.

W-w-w-what?

These are hanging in the aisles at the grocery store. I'm not sure if I want to use something that has a face to wipe up spills. Isn't that animal cruelty? Wouldn't vegetarians be mad? Or are we supposed to use them on the instant lunch noodles? I think I'd rather eat the wipes. maybe we will just pretend it never happened.

Spider noise

I did well last night. I had a set amount of things I wanted to accomplish. Clear out a stack of books, check. Wash dishes, check. Knit 10 rows of sock, check. Spin one ball of fiber, check. Put CD's in storage containers, check. I'm sitting and relaxing, taking in all the finishedness and wonderfulness of me and I feel a tickle. My hair falls out a lot and so I think it is just that, a hair falling across my arm. So I don't think much of it. Then I feel it again. I look down, and to my horror, there is a spider crawling up my arm. Not a little one, mind you, a big, very visible spider. So I did what any normal woman would do. I made the spider noise and jumped up frantically brushing my arm. The spider noise is not a scream, or a cry, it's kind of a loud ohhhh. You'd know if you heard it. After I calmed down I realized I had scared my son and kind of laughed at him for being scared of me being scared of a spider. I did comfort him though.

Pagosa Fiber Festival

Last Saturday I traveled over the pass about 70 miles to go to the Pagosa Fiber Festival. It was a wonderful day with just a few sprinkles of rain. I took the boys with me and we walked around. There were many different vendors of wool and roving and yarn and spinning tools and books. The boys liked the animals the best. There were different kinds of sheep and goats and rabbits and llamas and alpacas. We watched a sheep-shearing demonstration. The man had been shearing sheep for 56 years and he was fast. I ended up buying some Australian merino(undyed) and some superwash dyed roving. On the way home we stopped at a malt shop and I had a huge sundae. It would have fed several people. I had no idea it was going to be so big. Set the diet back a gazillion years but it was a special occasion.

Movie review #1 *spoilers*

Over the weekend I saw the movie Lars and the Real Girl. It's a funny film but kind of sad in spots. Lars decides to buy a doll for a girlfriend and proceeds to take her everywhere and treat her like a real person much to the disbelief of his brother and sister-in-law. But it's a really sweet story on how she affected everyone in the town and how it gets resolved in the end. I enjoyed and would recommend it to rent.

Furniture moving

When I first moved into my house, I got a couch from freecycle. It was old and had dog hair on it but it was much better than no couch. I used it for a few months and then I got another newer better one and so the old one had to go out the front door and around the house and in the back door because the interior doors are too narrow to go through (old house) Anyway, it's been sitting back there for a couple months taking up space and getting things piled on it and providing safe haven for the killer cats that live in my house. But yesterday I decided to get rid of it. Give it away. Get it out of my house. We lugged it outside once again, putting it near the street. My son made a very nice sign saying "free" and we set it there. I was hoping someone would pick it up within a couple days and it wouldn't get too rained on.
Well, in about a half hour, 3 guys that live across the alley walked over and took a look at it, then took it home. Excellent. About an hour later I look over and they had the couch in the back yard, had a fire in front of it and were sitting around and relaxing. Looks like they were getting good use out of it.
