Up up up

Last Saturday we drove up and up and up the Rock Creek road until we got to the end. At the end there is a little trail that first goes down to the creek and then it goes up and up and up. We followed it for a bit but the altitude is a bit much for me. I'm trying to work my way up to the top of the mountain.

Kel found a snowbank and was able to throw a few snowballs.

Day 8

Are you tired of pictures of blobs yet? Their eyes are starting to open so I'm hoping to get some better shots of them coming up soon. I've named them Dust, Goldie, Cotton, Marshmallow and Snow but I'm sure I will get overruled.

Day 7

The kittens are moving around a lot now. We watched two of them have a mini-fight over a place to drink. They were trying to push each other away. Very cute.

The girl cat

Alvin is a good mommy. The kittens are growing by leaps and bounds and seem clean and happy. A couple are starting to open their eyes and when I picked one up last night, he hissed at me.
But now that the kittens are growing up, Alvin feels like she can have her life back a bit and is starting to renew some of her own pursuits. The kittens sleep a little longer now and so I see her checking out birds through the window, or playing with water in the sink.
Life is good.

Almost a week old

I can't believe how much they've grown. Any day now they will open their eyes and devastate us with the cuteness.

Growing fast

I really need to take pictures during the day.

Day 3

I really need to figure out how to take better pictures, but I don't want to handle the kittens much at this point.

Kind of a photo montage coming in the next few weeks.

An event!

Remember this little cutie I found last July in a tree? Alvin the girl cat has gotten busy.

She was about to pop and had 5 kittens the other night. Very cute indeed.

Mountian climber un-extraordinaire!

I climbed a mountain yesterday. Actually it was a hill. Actually, I didn't get to the top. It was hot and I'm soooooooo out of shape. It was steep too. The boys made it up though. I think they enjoyed it. You can't even see the smoke in the air in the picture. There are fires all around this area and it has been smoke for days and days. I'll be glad when it clears off.

This is very cool

Brooklyn Tweed has posted a series of what happens in a fiber mill to make his yarn. Great pictures and very interesting to know how this sort of thing is done.

Part 5

I'm sure he wouldn't be disappointed if you happened to buy some of this nice yarn after reading about it.

Pumpkin carving

The boys carved their pumpkins yesterday and they did a fine job. I was impressed.

Raindrops keep falling on my head

I was looking at my phone and I've collected a few cloud photos over the last few months and thought I would finally share them. The last two look a bit like mammatus clouds, which are more rare. It's a wonder I don't drive off the road sometimes. ;)

Rude food.

I made a sandwich to eat last night. Not a great sandwich, but an ok one.
This is how I'm repaid.

Yes, we have another cat

Date: July 4, 2010
Time: 9:00 PM
Location: Safeway parking lot

I had just finished a trip to Safeway (hungry, you know). Walking across the parking lot I hear "meOW, MEOW, MEow" With my lightning deduction skills I figured it was a cat. So as a magnet is drawn to iron filings, or other magnets, but definitely not aluminum, I walked across the parking lot toward the sound. MEOW closer MEOW closer MEOW closer until I get to a tree. A tall tree. A straight tree. A tree with not many branches. Hmmmmm. I look around and finally see the kitten in the tree. What a loud noise for such a small creature! I climb up in the tree a few feet off the ground. I worry that the kitten will fall. Before too long he ventures far enough down that I can grab. Fortunately I have nerves of steel and arms of steel for he bites and kicks and generally freaks out. I have to hold him with both hands to prevent more scratches and it's then I realize it's not going to be easy to get out of the tree. I don't want to hand the cat to one of the boys because it is scared to death and they will drop it when it starts scratching. Finally I get turned enough to jump down, scraping my elbow in the process. I walk home with the kitten pressed against me. We put him in a carrier for the first night but now he has accepted us. He likes to play rough but he's very cute. I wanted to name him "Killer" but the boys decided on "Alvin". But no chipmunks.
