Stop me if you've heard this

Ha ha ha, like you could stop me.
via purdue
One day I was in a bad bad mood. Stomping around, growling at everyone. Nothing was right. Mad at the world. Finally my kids convinced me to take them for a walk. So I was walking along, not noticing the blue sky and the green grass and the lovely mountain misery to enjoy a view. Too buried in my own misery to notice anything. Something hit me on the shoulder. I glanced over. Something was on my shoulder. White, gooey, ick. A bird had pooped on me. Just what I needed on a day like this. Perfect crappy ending to a perfect crappy day. Suddenly I felt like I was in some kind of movie and I started laughing. Nothing so perfect had ever happened. How often does it happen that you feel so awful and then a bird poops on you.
Made my day.

Today's post
Help not just anybody
Help you know I need someone HELP!
I was thinking of the various projects I have in process (dishcloth, blanket, socks, shawl, spinning) and wanting to get a lot done on them before school starts. But, school starts next monday. After which I will be doing math homework a lot. Math homework that promises to be hard. I have this sneaking suspicion that I'm not going to get anything done. Oh well, story of my life.
Yesterday's post
And today I wil do today's post. Which will be more of the same.

Laziness
And for me, laziness consists of....
washing clothes and hanging them on the line, then folding and putting them away
grinding a pound of wheat by hand
baking 2 loaves of bread
baking a pan of bar cookies
washing the sheets then remaking the bed
reading nearly all of a book
going through a pile of paperwork to sort
washing dishes 3 different times
taking the trash out
walking to the post office, library, thrift store
ordering and fetching pizza
watching movies
playing video games
hmmmmm

Caturday
Saturday was a good day. Farmers market in the morning where I got some lovely tomatoes and onions and carrots and a pillow that my youngest wanted. Then fiber guild that I FINALLY went to after being invited a year ago. Then later I took the boys to the playground and I read while they played. It was a nice evening and a good day. And the sun was even redder than the picture shows.

So cool it crochets itself
I finally found something to do with the cotton from 2 different sweaters I took apart. It's the Starling Handbag by Futuregirl. I found that after I had done a few rows, the yarn fits neatly inside the bag when I'm not working on it. Looks like it could crochet itself.

The Rustler
I glance around. There are also dogs and cats and children and birds that are likely to be in the vicinity.
*rustle rustle*
Hmmmm, I walk over to the south side of the house.
*rustle rustle*
There is a hole under the house that I observe and I see a little black nose moving, more rustling. Then TAAA-DAAAAA!!!!!
The skunk jumps out of the hole and starts to mosey toward me.
I beat a hasty retreat.

At either end
I sleep and then morning comes. 5:00 AM. Loud truck enters the scene. Vrooom, VROOOOOM and it sits running for a few minutes before the owner VRRRRROOOOOOMS away.
Both wake me up every time. You'd think I'd be used to it.

To the skunk under my house
Why must you take up residence
Your malodorous intent
Wakes me at night
Your incessant shuffling
Disturbs me
Your elusive nature
Makes me wonder how to deal with you.

Cantankerousness

Why is it that when people tell you what to do, you'll not do it just because you are stubborn or whatever. Like flossing my teeth. I've never read anything that says it's a bad thing. It's not all that hard or time-consuming for me. I have dental floss in my bathroom. I just went to the dentist so I have tons of it actually. What is the problem? My problem is that my sister is always after me to do it. So I don't want to. What kind of weird things does your brain do to you? What does it matter what she wants? Now, the dentist advised I floss and he seems nice and genuinely concerned so now I will try. What things don't you do that you should do but don't because someone is nagging you about it?

Cheap entertainment
Getting ready for bed. I'm reading a book and my son says, "look mom!" I look up and there is one of those giant mosquitos above my head on the ceiling. Not sure what it really is. So my son got his sword and shield from Medeival Times and slashed at it. It flew around a bit and landed on a wall. So then he got a towel and hit it. We think he killed it. Then we went on a frenzy, waving the towel at the other mosquitos on the walls. A grand time was had by all.

Buzz
I'm spinning some organic merino right now. Working on a 3-ply. The fiber is the double fiber club from Spunky Eclectic in Twilight colorway. It was January's club fiber if I remember correctly. It's coming along nicely. The weight is coming out to about what I wanted. I had been only spinning bulky things on my wheel so I had to concentrate to spin something smaller. I also got a lazy kate to help with the plying and it really does help. It's not quite so green in real life. More teal and purple but it was night and dark.
Saturday I was working on hanging up clothes on the line to dry and I heard a buzz buzz. I look around warily. Buzz buzz. Looking for the bee or wasp. Buzz buzz. I realize it's following me and sounds muffled. Buzz buzz. Ack! It must be in my clothespin bag I have around my waist. Buzz buzz. I don't dare put my hand in there. Buzz buzz. Oh wait, it's in my pocket. It's my phone. D'oh!

Black socks
In other news.... I was making coffee this morning and I was looking out to my garden, noting the grass coming up and being annoyed when I noticed a cat. A black cat. I thought to myself, "oh, I haven't seen that cat before, another cat to add to the herd of outside cats" It came closer to the house and it hit me, it's my cat, from the inside cat herd. I went outside to try and coax it in but it was having none of that. So I left the door cracked a bit and hopefully it will come back in. Or, the other inside cats will go out, or, the other outside cats will come in. It's never boring.

Chuck Norris would end up liking you too much to kill you. You're funny and cool, and you would be spared. Chuck would subsequently show you how to party and you would have the best time in your life, but in the morning you'd roll over and he would be gone. Your heart would be broken forever.

W-w-w-what?
These are hanging in the aisles at the grocery store. I'm not sure if I want to use something that has a face to wipe up spills. Isn't that animal cruelty? Wouldn't vegetarians be mad? Or are we supposed to use them on the instant lunch noodles? I think I'd rather eat the wipes. maybe we will just pretend it never happened.

Movie review #1 *spoilers*

Over the weekend I saw the movie Lars and the Real Girl. It's a funny film but kind of sad in spots. Lars decides to buy a doll for a girlfriend and proceeds to take her everywhere and treat her like a real person much to the disbelief of his brother and sister-in-law. But it's a really sweet story on how she affected everyone in the town and how it gets resolved in the end. I enjoyed and would recommend it to rent.

Furniture moving
Well, in about a half hour, 3 guys that live across the alley walked over and took a look at it, then took it home. Excellent. About an hour later I look over and they had the couch in the back yard, had a fire in front of it and were sitting around and relaxing. Looks like they were getting good use out of it.

I'm weird
Maybe I should mention some knitting instead. I'm knitting a black sock. The yarn is nice, the needles seem to be the right size and everything. But I've found that they are daytime socks. Black yarn is very hard to knit in the evening with just a lamp. I had gotten about 20 rows into the sock and I pulled it out during the day and realized there were dropped stitches everywhere. I couldn't see them under a lamp. So I did what every expert knitter does, pulled it out and started over.

My exciting life
So finally I kind of bat it with a newspaper and it falls. And crawls. Well, it's a new bug after all. I'm afraid it's a stink bug so I don't want to step on it. I try to scoop it up and it runs (well, crawls) under a toy car that is on the floor. When I move the car I realize it has crawled into the car. Wanting to escape faster I imagine. So I took the car and set it outside. The bug can now go cruising in comfort.

Movies

Ironman was good. Again I wish I had known nothing about it before I saw it. I've heard too much about how good it was. Robert Downey Jr
sounded so much like Dustin Hoffman it was scary. I've always thought he was a really good actor. It took me awhile to recognize Jeff Bridges. Really a different role than I've seen for him. The effects are great and perhaps on the big screen it would have been more spectacular.
Rushmore was more of the kind of comedy/drama I've been liking lately. I've decided these kinds of movies remind me of The Graduate. I think Bill Murray was great.

A Star Trek Life

I've been watching too much Star Trek. The Next Generation (TNG), Deep Space 9 (DS9). Now I want things they have. Right now I want a replicator so I don't have to go across the street to get something to eat. Seems like too much trouble. Or a transporter would be good. Then I could just beam over there. A holodeck would be excellent too. An economy that doesn't require money. I hope someone is working on these things.

Movie and such

It was great, I really liked it. It reminded me of several other movies I've really liked. The Darjeeling Limited, Stranger Than Fiction and The Royal Tenenbaums. So if you liked any of those, you will probably like this one. I think independent films tend to be more like this although these aren't all independent. I tend to go for offbeat kinds of things and so this is a prime example.

Are you one of those?
"I don't need coffee to wake up in the morning"
"I just take a shower and I'm good to go"
"Coffee is too expensive anyway"
"I'll never drink that stuff"
Admit it, you know someone like that who is perky in the morning, doesn't get out of bed and immediately stumble to the kitchen, put coffee in the maker, pour water in and then forget to turn it on. Oh wait, that's me.
All I can say is beware. I used to be one of these people. All the sanctimony was included. I was better than everyone who needed coffee to wake up.
Starbucks was quite good this morning.

Post 200
I got some great new sock yarn during spring break (yahoo!) from Pueblo Fiber Arts. The color is just beautiful and so of course I can't can't can't wait until I get something knit from it. So, I picked a pattern Mockery Socks(free download from Ravelry), then I proceeded to knit. Ahhhh, beautiful, the colors changing, the pattern not too busy so as not to detract from the beeyootiful yarn. I get the leg done, admiring my work and decide to try it on. The sock is for me and I'm right here, so why not. To my dismay, I can't even get it over my foot. Curse you size 1 needles. Curse you! I briefly flirt with the idea of giving the socks to someone with a more suitable size foot but NO! They are my socks. So I frogged them, starting again with size 2 needles. Not quite finished with the leg again but you can bet your booty I've tried it on already.

Movie
I have this theory about myself and it's proven true again. I really prefer to see a movie cold. I really don't want to know what it's about or what may happen. Surprise usually makes it better. There have been some movies that I can't handle and have turned off, but even some that are supposed to be scary, I've liked. I saw The Host over the weekend. I had seen a blog review a long time ago and so put it in my netflix queue and finally got around to it. So I had forgotten what it was about. It was a monster movie and it was wonderful. It was a Korean film but english was dubbed in but you don't even notice after a bit. I really liked that it was different than one you would see in the U.S. The monster wasn't the main focus and they didn't try to make the monster seem evil. I get tired of the anthropomorphizing that goes on with that genre. The creature just wanted to eat, and of course, people are easy targets. I'd recommend it. I think it showed how people are more evil. Very intense, very interesting and an unexpected ending.

Too many movies
On another note, I missed 3 whole weeks of my favorite show The Big Bang Theory. (priorities!) So this week I was ready. Made sure I didn't plan anything else, made sure I had dinner and everything arranged for maximum TV watching comfort. It's the only night of network TV I like so it's important. I turned on the TV at the correct time and oh! Basketball games. I'm sure it's great and all but I don't follow basketball so even if I watched I wouldn't know why or if it's exciting and they didn't let me watch my favorite show. 'Twas annoying but I guess I'll survive somehow.

Monsters Vs Aliens

I took the boys to see this over the weekend. It was pretty good, lots of action, lots of funny parts that weren't in the previews. Lots of more adult humor so that parents wouldn't get bored. The boys laughed a lot and so did I. One thing they didn't portray with the previews was that the story was about the giant woman. All in all I liked it. Great for the kids and adults will like it too.

The poor dear

I was looking through some really old Workbasket magazines that I bought on ebay a few years ago. They are from 1955 and they just have a variety of craft projects and recipes. A woman's magazine for sure. The best part are the ads. Most are just to buy Christmas cards(50 for $1.50) and address labels(300 for $.50). But this poor woman caught my eye. Let me type it out for you. It's a full page 5x7 ad. The italics were part of the ad.
Is it getting worse -- night after night?
In the stillness of the night you lie there. It's been this way for hours. You've been asleep--yet you haven't.
You've had many restless nights like this before. Too, too many.
As you lie there, all tense and rigid--you try not to fret about problems. And when the morning light does appear, you wish with all your heart that you didn't have to get up. But somehow you do. Some of your days are just as trying, and perhaps when you're alone, you sometimes find yourself brooding, or even sobbing quietly.
(now, I'm thinking there is a major problem in this woman's life, someone is dying, husband is having an affair, something)
If you've been jumpy, restless, feeling low...or bothered by indigestion or headaches...it just may be possible that you've been the victim of a seeminly innocent habit or relying on the caffein (sic) in coffee or tea for a quick pick-up.
(it's coffee! will evils never cease to exist!)
Now, it's silly to say that there's enough caffein in a occasional cup of coffee or tea to cause anxiety and tenseness--but cup after cup, all day long, week after week, month after month????
You switch from caffein-heavy drinks to a new, wonderful hot beverage--Imitation Coffee Flavor Instant Postum, now available for the first time!
What a rich aroma this new beverage has! And it's so full-bodied, so satisfying.
(whew, imitation coffee flavor no less, because we know we all drink coffee just for the flavor)
Of course, if you're one of the many people who don't care for the taste of coffee, remember that regular instant Postum is still available. Your grocer has both.
(hallelujah! the grocer will save us!)
Why hot give a fair trial to this satisfying, caffein-free beverage--Instant Postom? See if you don't feel better! Act better! Look better!
Oh, such drama, such despair. I'm so glad there is instant postum out there. To save people like me. I'm throwing out the coffee tonight. Heaven forbid I start looking like this woman. There are too, too many of them out there.
